47th Rotorua MarathonThe Rotorua Marathon proves to be a hardy event that continues to draw experienced and fresh runners and walkers to its picturesque course. The Lion Foundation Rotorua Marathon celebrates 47 years in 2011, with all marathon competitors receiving a souvenier ASICS T-shirt and all marathon finishers receiving a finishers medal. The Start and Finish to the marathon are in the Government Gardens outside the Energy Events Centre, with the course heading out through Rotorua's CBD, down Lake Rd, Fairy Springs Rd and around the traditional lake course (with undulating hills, long flats and a head wind 'somewhere'), back into Town. The finish is up through the beautiful Princes Arch past the Government Gardens and into the Energy Events Centre. The marathon course is measured to IAAF Standards. The 2011 event doubles as the New Zealand Marathon Championships. In 2011 the marathon will be bringing all the supportive and vocal locals out around the Lake whether at their own front gate or volunteering as part of a Drink Station ensuring you stay hydrated, or at the Energy Events Centre assisting to take off your timing chip, supplying your hot tea, or cheerfully handing over the race number prior to it all beginning. Thanks to the Lion Foundation for ensuring the Rotorua Marathon continues, and many thanks to the sponsors and suppliers who are actively involved supplying product, man power, energy and enthusiasm. Thanks also to the myriad of volunteers doing every conceivable task that assure us, and ensure you, have the best day possible.
